I Am Confident

And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: I John 5:4 (KJV)

What a tremendous feeling to confidently know that the God of heaven knows our voices, is concerned about our lives, and hears us when we pray! Confidence – the full trust or belief in the powers, trustworthiness or reliability of a person or thing. As we look around us, there are fewer and fewer things that we can place our confidence in. We continue to be consistently overwhelmed by news of police brutality, political scandal, legal injustices and increasing racial tensions. Further, many of our lives are troubled. We struggle with broken relationships and broken promises, our hearts fragile and filled with fear.
Yet, in the face of all this negativity and uncertainty, as believers we maintain our confidence in God. We have this confidence because our God is immutable. He is changeless. Our confidence is secure because God is consistent. Our confidence in God cannot be shaken because we know He cares for us. Our passage points out that our confidence rests in the knowledge that when our prayers and petitions agree with the Word of God, He hears us.
What is it that you need God to do in your life? What areas of uncertainty are you facing? Remember that our God is faithful. Sometimes we must face difficult, demanding, and even tricky situations that we simply do not understand. We attempt to find someone to explain, but their attempts are meager at best. However, while we do not always understand the ways of God, we can be confident in His ability to lead and direct our lives. Be confident that you are in the plan of God. Know that God knows what He is doing. And when you find yourself needing some answers or directions, be confident that if you ask Him according to His will, He will hear you.
Prayer – Great God, we praise Your name today. You are an awesome God, and we simply want to thank You for being so trustworthy. We affirm our faith in You and Your ability to lead and direct our lives. Thank You Lord, for what You have done, what You are doing and what You will do in each of us. This is our prayer, and we pray it in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
